Love Me Tender - How to build your construction supply chain

Updated: Aug 28, 2023

Does your business have a construction project or a programme of construction works? Do you know what you want but don’t know who can deliver it for you? You know you should put your project out to tender, but do you know how to do that? Maybe you know exactly how a tender should be run but, quite frankly, you already have enough to do in your working day.

At Iconic Project Management, we have many years’ experience of the tender process, both from the client and contractors’ point of view. We know how to make it run smoothly and give you the best result.

Quality and value

Even if you already have someone in mind to carry out your construction work, it’s good practice to put it to tender to measure their quality and value against the market. This eliminates the possibility that your contractor, knowing they are a preferred supplier, will quote you above the market rate. At the other end of the spectrum, it allows you to filter out all those who would under-quote, in order to secure your business, but then fail to deliver.

If your construction project is outside your local area, you might not know the right people to carry out your works. Beyond doing a Google search, or looking in a local directory, how do you even find contractors in the first place? Our supply network covers all of the trades across the whole of the UK. Wherever your project is, we have someone who can help you. You’ll be reassured to know that all our people will commit to our guarantee to deliver on time and on budget.

If you’ve already found a contractor, whether it’s someone you already know or if it’s somebody who’s been recommended, you may be not be sure if they have all the capabilities to do the job. If your contractor has sold you a dream but isn’t capable of delivering it, your project will be at risk of running over budget and over time. You don’t need that kind of pain.

Let us build your construction supply chain

We have years of experience of running tenders from the client perspective, so we know what questions to ask to verify the competency of your contractors. Because we have also submitted plenty of tenders as contractors, we understand that bidders will answer the questions asked, as precisely as they can. Therefore, if you don’t ask the right questions, bidders won’t necessarily be able to give you the information you need to make an informed choice.

We carefully vet and assess all contractors before we consider proposing them to you. We have a set process that allows us to accurately assess each contractor’s suitability for the job in hand, so you can expect a reliable, predictable result every time.

As with most things in life, cheapest is not necessarily best value. Our focus is on getting the best value for you and we will always provide comparisons that demonstrate the value of what we propose.

If you would like any advice on running a tender for your construction project, or would like us to run a tender on your behalf, please get in touch.
