We are delighted to announce that Iconic Project Management has been named SME of the Year 2024 at the prestigious Association for Project Management (APM) Awards, held at the Park Plaza, Westminster Bridge, on Monday 18th November.
The APM Awards: a widely regarded mark of excellence
Widely regarded as a benchmark of excellence in the project management profession, the APM Awards celebrate outstanding achievements that set the standard for the industry. Winning this award is a proud moment for us and reflects our commitment to delivering exceptional results while championing a construction industry that fosters opportunity, pride, and growth.
This incredible achievement is a testament to the dedication, talent, and passion of our small but mighty team of seven. Competing with acclaimed businesses from across the globe, this win highlights the extraordinary impact that a close-knit, purpose-driven team can make.
Why Iconic were picked
Judges remarked that they were particularly impressed by our commitment to employee development and wellbeing, highlighting initiatives such as our 'thinking days' which have given rise to innovations such as MiPM.
As a small, UK-based team, we’ve always prioritised building strong client relationships, relentlessly pursuing their goals, and exceeding expectations. Our world-class project managers continuously seek ways to improve, ensuring that every project we deliver is second to none.
Our Journey to the APM Awards
When Tabindah and Lizzie crafted our APM awards submission earlier this year, our initial hope was simply to be shortlisted. Competing in the SME category, which includes businesses with up to 250 employees, we knew the odds were steep.
The announcement of our shortlisting in July was a moment of pure joy, and the beginning of a concerted team effort. Over several weeks, we collaboratively prepared a compelling presentation for the second round of judging. This process involved creating a presentation deck, extensive rehearsals, and refining every detail.
On the day of the presentation, Darren, Rachel, and Mike represented Iconic in front of the judges via an online meeting. As they delivered their presentation, the rest of the team nervously gathered outside the meeting room, eavesdropping, and silently cheering them on. Their performance left no doubt - they had done Iconic proud.
A Night to Remember
On awards night, Darren and Lizzie represented Iconic at the glittering ceremony. With tough competition in the SME category, they arrived determined to celebrate the moment, regardless of the outcome.
The announcement of the SME of the Year award came early in the evening, sparing us a long wait. When Iconic Project Management was declared the winner, Darren and Lizzie were astounded, taking to the stage to accept the award with beaming smiles.
The rest of the evening was a whirlwind of celebrations; sharing the news with our team on WhatsApp, congratulating fellow winners, and posing for photos.
What the APM Award means to us
This award is more than a trophy - it’s a reflection of our ethos and values. Senior Project Manager Mike Weeks perfectly summed it up:
“For me, the APM award is recognition that we are doing the right thing. It's very satisfying and motivating to be recognised by industry peers and to have the light shone briefly on our wonderful little business.”
Thank you
We’d like to thank the APM for this incredible recognition and extend our gratitude to our clients, collaborators, and supporters. Without your trust in our vision and your belief in our capabilities, this achievement would not have been possible.
This award reminds us that size doesn’t limit impact. It’s about the passion and purpose behind what we do. Our journey is just beginning, and we’re excited to see what the future holds for Iconic Project Management.
Here’s to celebrating this win together and continuing to achieve great things!
